Aurora Leads After 18 Holes at 2019 NACC Women's Golf Championship

RACINE, Wis. ( --- Defending champion Aurora University holds a 19-stroke lead over second place St. Norbert College following the first round of the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Golf Championship at Meadowbrook Country Club.

The Spartans, with five players positioned inside the top 10 overall, posted a 347 team total Saturday, while the Green Knights are next with a 366 total. Lakeland University sits third at 388, followed by Concordia University Wisconsin (402), Benedictine University (422), Edgewood College (437), Marian University (440), Wisconsin Lutheran College (449), and Alverno College (537).

Tee times for Sunday's second round begin at 10:45 a.m. with Aurora, St. Norbert, and Lakeland going off in the initial wave. Concordia Wisconsin, Benedictine and Edgewood will follow in the second wave beginning at approximately 11:25 a.m., while Marian, Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno tee off in the final wave beginning at approximately 12:05 p.m.

Pairings for Monday's third round (9 a.m.) will be made according to the results from Sunday's second round. 

Lakeland senior Ali Wilson, who played in the first group of the day, currently holds the lead in the medalist race after an opening-round 83. She leads Aurora's Madison Erickson and Hannah Schulz by two strokes. A third Aurora player - Shelby Bergholz - and St. Norbert's Kayley Sjoholm are tied for fourth after posting 87s.

Concordia Wisconsin's Gabrielle Flocco, Edgewood's Sarah Pophal, and St. Norbert's Elizabeth Bobinski are tied for sixth place with a score of 89, while Aurora's Becca Hasemann and Sarah Isaacs round out the top 10 with matching 90s.

The top 10 individuals following Monday's final round earn all-conference honors.

Monday's champion will earn the NACC's automatic berth into the field at the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which will be held May 12-15 on the Champions Course at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
