2018 NACC Women's Tennis Awards Announced

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) has announced its major awards and all-conference team for the 2018 women's tennis season. All awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.

Illinois Institute of Technology senior Weronika Halicka was named the league's Player of the Year after posting a 24-2 record overall in the Scarlet Hawks' first year in the league. She went 11-1 overall in singles play, including a 9-0 mark at the No. 1 spot and a 6-0 mark against NACC opponents. Halicka's lone loss came in a match tiebreaker in the Round of 32 at the ITA Central Region Championships. In doubles play, she went 13-1 - 10-0 at the No. 1 spot and 6-0 against the league - while playing primarily with Morgan Colbert.

NACC Freshman of the Year honors went to Concordia University Wisconsin freshman Ricki Budewitz. Budewitz posted a 22-4 mark this fall, playing mainly No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for Falcons. She was 11-2 overall in singles play, including a 9-1 mark against NACC competition. In doubles play, Budewitz posted an 11-2 mark, including a 10-0 mark with Bailey Kelly.

Edgewood College head coach Bubba Schultz was voted Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Eagles (10-2, 10-0 NACC) to an undefeated conference season and the program's eighth NACC title.

Of the 15 individuals receiving honors, 10 earned honors in both singles and doubles, including Halicka, Colbert, Budewitz and Kelly. Edgewood and Concordia Wisconsin each had four players earn all-league honors with all four Edgewood honorees - Alyssa Carew, Kai Heineman, Alicia Picard and Sydney Verbauwhede - picking up plaudits in both singles and doubles.

Concordia Wisconsin's Ashley Solberg - the 2015 NACC Freshman of the Year and 2017 NACC Player of the Year - capped a spectacular career with her fourth career honors in both singles and doubles. Kelly became a four-time honoree in doubles, while Marian's Meg Hartzell earned her fourth All-NACC singles honor.

Note: There are 13 singles honorees on this year's All-NACC team due to a tie in the balloting for the final spot.
