MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Dominican University has been picked to win the 2018 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's soccer championship according to the preseason poll, voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Stars (17-1-4) posted 16 shutouts a year ago and were unbeaten in 21 games en route to the NACC Tournament title before coming up short to Washington University in St. Louis in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

One piece of hardward that eluded Dominican, however, was the NACC regular-season crown. Despite going unbeaten (8-0-2) in league play with a win over champion MSOE (9-1-0), the Stars fell one point short of the Raiders as their two draws could not overcome MSOE's extra victory in conference play.

Dominican received 19 of 24 first-place votes and 283 points in the preseason poll.

MSOE was second with 264 points and five top votes, while Aurora University and Concordia University Wisconsin tied for third with 229 points.

Marian University was fifth with 167 points, Benedictine University sixth with 151, Illinois Institute of Technology sixth with 147, and Edgewood College eighth with 132.

Concordia University Chicago was ninth with 119 points and Wisconsin Lutheran College 10th with 75. Lakeland University and Alverno College took the final two spots in the poll with 47 and 29 points, respectively.

The NACC's regular season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament, while the tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
