Marian University's Lindsey Strainis and Benedictine University's Becky Karlinski have been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Position Player and Pitching Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for events of April 2-8, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Strainis (Green Bay, Wis.) led the Marian offense to sweeps of Edgewood College and Rockford University. The junior shortstop went 5-for-9 (.556) at the plate while putting together a .733 on-base percentage and .778 slugging percentage for the week. She scored five times and drove in another eight runs including four runs batted in to open a doubleheader against Rockford. Defensively, she had seven assists and a putout from the middle of the diamond.
Karlinski (Naperville, Ill.) posted a 4-0 week in the circle for Benedictine with a 1.31 ERA, spinning three complete games. The rookie won both ends of a doubleheader sweep over Alverno College as she allowed just two hits in a complete game 7-0 shutout in the opener, striking out six. She spun a four-hit shutout of Dominican University, needing only five innings in an 11-0 win while fanning five. Karlinski worked 21.1 innings and allowed just four runs in the week while striking out 15.
