MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Dominican University has been picked to win the 2018 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's soccer championship according to the preseason poll, voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Stars (14-5 overall in 2017) tied for second in the NACC regular-season standings last season with an 8-2 record in league play but rebounded to capture the NACC Tournament title with a 2-1 win over fifth-seeded MSOE before being edged by Capital (Ohio), 2-1, in overtime in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
Dominican received 18 of 24 first-place votes and 281 points in the preseason poll.
Defending NACC regular-season champion Concordia University Wisconsin was second with 251 points and four top votes, while Benedictine University accumulated 231 points and the final two top nods to edge Aurora University for third place. The Spartans took fourth with 229 points.
Milwaukee School of Engineering was fifth with 187 points, Illinois Institute of Technology sixth with 151, Edgewood College seventh with 140 and Marian University eighth with 138.
Wisconsin Lutheran College was ninth with 105 points and Concordia University Chicago 10th with 71. Rockford University and Lakeland University took the final two spots in the poll with 54 and 32 points, respectively.
The NACC's regular season standings determine the teams that qualify for the six-team conference tournament, while the tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
