Lakeland University's Michael Whitley, Aurora University's Ray DiMatteo and Benedictine University's Juwann Nelson have been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Football Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Student-Athletes of the Week for events of Oct. 2-8, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Whitley (Vidalia, La.) set a new school and NACC record with seven touchdown passes in Lakeland's 47-40 win over Adrian College. The senior quarterback completed an 11-yard touchdown pass with 1:05 left for the winning score. He passed for 433 yards, his second 400+ yard passing game this season.
DiMatteo (Cary, Ill.) had seven tackles, 2.5 coming for a loss and two sacks, and one on the final drive of the game that solidified the Spartans' 16-14 win at Concordia University Chicago.
Nelson (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied 121 all-purpose yards -- 71 via punt returns and 50 via kickoffs -- on seven returns in a win over Concordia University Wisconsin. The sophomore returner had a long of 46 on a punt return.
